A young man attempted to assassinate a protectee of the Secret Service. In a prior interview, the head of the Secret Service seemed very proud of the new diversity goals in the Secret Service. Did the new Secret Service sacrifice competence to meet these diversity goals, because there were several competence issues noted during the investigation of the assassination attempt.
During the attempted assassination, one Secret Service agent seemed unsure how to protect Trump (crouching off to the side while the rest of the Secret Service agents bodily covered Trump).
The same Secret Service agent obviously tried multiple times, but was unable to holster their weapon.
The head of the Secret Service basically stated that because the roof used by the assassin was sloped (in reality, it was almost a flat roof), it posed a hazard to the Secret Service agents and was not manned.
It was stated that law enforcement and/or Secret Service agents were notified well before the shooting that a person was acting suspicious.
Either the shooter moved the rifle and ladder into position immediately before the shooting, or the rifle and ladder were staged before the shooter climbed the roof. No matter how the shooter reached the roof with the rifle, it is a massive failure on the part of the Secret Service.
Several months back, the Secret Service was unable to prevent a person from smuggling cocaine into the White House and was also unable to identify the person responsible after the cocaine was found. For an organization with a mission statement of : "We have an integrated mission of protection and investigations to ensure the safety and security of our protectees, key locations, and events of national significance. " They seem to be dropping the ball.
