I read that some members of congress want a cost of living (COL) pay raise. They noted that they haven't received one in over 10 years. Didn't these same members of congress just determine we are overspending our tax dollars already? Are they aware that with their $174,000 salary they are in the top 97% for annul income in America? Do they realize that more than half of the members of congress are millionaires? A little-known fact is that members of congress only need to be in DC one day a year. With today's technology, members of congress can do their job (vote, attend meetings, etc) and almost never go to DC. Based on the 2022 adjusted dollars, members of congress have been paid basically the same great salary since 1932.
To recap, do I think a group of mostly millionaires, who only have to work a few days a year, who are already making more money annually than 97% of Americans, need a COL pay raise?
No.
Why can't the states provide additional income for their poor members of congress? Or better yet, make it a bonus/pay for performance item?
(To be fair, the average congressmen spends about 147 days a year in DC)
